How is Liposuction Performed?

Drs. Rosenberg and Lambrushi begin this procedure by making an incision an inconspicuous skin fold, to reduce scarring, and then a canula is inserted in the skin. This hollow-tube will suck out the excess fat deposits. Sometimes our surgeons will remove the fat from the tissue before inserting the canula, and a new technique allows water to be drained into the area to force the fatty cells to break from the tissue. The length of this procedure will be dependent on the amount of fat being removed and the areas being treated.

What to Expect After Liposuction?

Before embarking on your journey with liposuction, take time to become comfortable with your surgeon as this procedure can have more serious side effects. These can include the following but not usually:

Infections which should be treated immediately
Embolism is when fat becomes trapped in a blood vessel and can plug the way to lungs or brain
Visceral Perforations is when the canula accidentally punctures an internal organ the surgeon was unable to see
Fluid Imbalance can affect the lungs, kidney or heart as the excessive fluid removal throws of the fluid balance
Skin problems can be swelling of the skin above the treated area that can lead to the skin dying and sloughing off
