How are Tummy Tucks Performed?

Drs. Rosenberg and Lambrushi begin tummy tucks by making a horizontal incision directly above where the pubic hair begins that goes from one hipbone to the other. The muscle and soft tissue will be tightened, and then the flap will be closed so that the excess skin and fat can be removed. Our West Dundee patients also have the option of a partial tummy tuck, which involves the surgeon making an incision around the navel so that excess fat deposits can be removed endoscopically. The tummy tuck will last around 2 to 5 hours.

What to Expect After Your Tummy Tuck?

Following your tummy tuck, your surgeon may recommend that a tube is used for 2 to 3 days for excess drainage, and an elastic bandage will be placed around the area to reduce swelling. Swelling, bruising and numbness should dissipate after about 3 weeks, and normal activity can resume after 4 weeks but a pressure garment should still be worn.
